Madekwe is from a multicultural family. Born in South London. Madekwe is English as well as her father is Nigerian. Her family was raised in a council estate located south of London. At the age 14, she attended The Brit School. She studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. Madekwe started her career as an actor through the film Storm Damage. In the years since she has appeared in Teachers as well as Doctors. Her success resulted in her being cast as Elisha as a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot, then appear in the six-episode series Trexx & Flipside playing the character of Ollie. In 2008 she landed Bambi's part on the ITV2 Drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Madekwe was in both series 2 and 3. Madekwe was a part of the comedic How to Lose Friends and alienate others (2008). Her credits in theatre include Little Sweet Thing by Roy Williams and Flight Path by David Watson.
Madekwe's US debut came in 2009 with the drama The Beautiful Life. The series aired only two episodes prior to being cancelled on The CW. Ashley Davenport, a character in ABC's Revenge drama, was chosen for her as Ashley Davenport. After appearing on the show for the first two seasons, the show was announced late May 2013 that Madekwe was set to depart the series following a guest appearance in the pilot episode from the 3rd season. Between 2014 and 2016, Madekwe was a star as Tituba the television series Salem. Her long-time friend, Iddo, married Madekwe in June 2012. They have worked together in the show Secret Diary of a Call Girl as well as he is also a part of the cast on the show Salem.

Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actress, who was born into a big family. She was born to Roy and Patty Leggat. Her family included the parents Roy and Patty as well as four older brothers: Brett, Todd and Bram twins, Rob, and Brett. Ashley lived in stadiums or baseball parks since her brothers, who were all athletic, played baseball, hockey, and basketball in summer and winter. Ashley never actually walked -she danced, so at the age of just two years old, she started Baby Ballet -and she fell in love. Ashley was enthralled by dance after this. Ashley was a professional dancer in all the major categories until the time she graduated from high school. She was a competitor in ballet, jazz, tap as well as pointe and the acrobatics.
